Racing has begun and the local Maximum Edge Cycling Team has hit it out big in their first race of the season. The report from the team follows.
The Maximum Edge Cycling Team made its 2009 debut Saturday in race No.1 of the Flying Rhinos spring race series at Waterford Hills Raceway. Dante, Chris and John made their way to Clarkston, Michigan entering the ‘B’ race (50 minutes + 2 laps). In the field of 43 riders the Max Edge riders were aggressive right from the start, with Chris launching an attack early in lap number two. A couple of riders with Dante on their wheels were able to bridge up to Chris. Chris eventually dropped them and was able to stay away solo for a couple of laps before the field joined him leading into the prime lap.
After the prime sprint a couple of riders attacked the field with John scrambling across to join them. Two other riders made an effort to join the group and for a while the group was four. After a couple of laps John found himself alone 500 meters off the front. As John attempted to solo the remaining 25 minutes Dante controlled the front of the peloton keeping a watchful eye on all attempts to bridge the gap. Chris sat in, resting for a possible sprint finish.

On the final lap of the race John was able to maintain his lead over the peloton and finish in style with a solo win. Dante made an attempt to break away mid way through the final lap to gather up second place but was caught by a hard charging peloton setting up for the final sprint. As the group sped towards the finish Chris slowly moved his way up the inside and exploded to take the bunch sprint for second.
Team Maximum Edge is off to a great start with 2 podiums and winnings totaling a whopping $29.00 USD(which covered lunch @ Rio Wraps and gas money). The team hopes to send more riders to the second race in the series on Saturday April 4 and continue riding the gravy train of bountiful winnings.
Also, a big congratulations to local Junior racer Ben A. of the Maple Leaf Cycling Club who also looked very strong in the race.

ReplyDeleteGreat Race and good tactics!
A great way to start the season...more to come!
nice job boys and I like the pic of Dante trying to get a draft off Chris more like casting a shadow on him.
ReplyDeleteYum Rio Wraps
ReplyDeleteI didn't see any of that $29 being brought out at Shooters the next day.....let me guess Shooters doesn't accept US cash!
ReplyDeleteIs Max Edge his real name and why don't we invite him out for a ride some time?
ReplyDeleteThe mayor of Fargo called, they need some more sand bags.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about doing the 'C' race this weekend. Anybody in??
ReplyDeletecan't already focused on tearing about the F grouping! I am looking forward to John getting to wear his yellow series leader jersey!
ReplyDelete8:53, saturday night...where is the latest race update...i'd call and complain but i don't know the number!
ReplyDeleteDon't get all hot and bothered, hold on to your skirt the report is coming. It'll be worth the wait!
ReplyDelete4:53, sunday afternoon...i have now been sitting here click the refresh button for 20 straight hours...i need to slip away a grab some food, i feel faint, but I will return asap!!
ReplyDeleteLets hope this is a female groupie and not one of those crazy guy groupies
ReplyDeleteA post is still a ways off. I'm relaxing up in Wellington County after a ride through the rolling twisting countryside, though don't get me wrong, the flat-grid-wind swept roads of Essex are where my heart lies. Wonder how the tacos were on the ride today back home?
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Devolder won Flanders - disappointing. Nice ride by Maaskant.
ReplyDeleteAhh the Belgian riders. They are awesome aren't they.
ReplyDeleteJLo
Do you own stocks in Garmin. Your right though I would of preferred something other than a repeat. Rabobank were the big disappointment. I see a top five for Maaskant at Roubaix coming off last years experience and his form.
ReplyDeleteLook for Cav again mid-week at Ghent.
ahh my Spring Classics Fantasy points..Yes!!
ReplyDeletebtw nice race photos.
ReplyDeleteJeff, let me tell you something about picking fantasy teams. When there has already been three races you have to take riders that have done well in those races. Even if you have Devolder adding those 30 points to your 25 points puts you exactly ...NOWHERE! Adding 30 to my 86 puts me SOMEWHERE! Hey that's what life is all about learning from your mistakes, maybe next year.
ReplyDeleteBubble Burster
Next year I will pick 80 teams
